2010 Startup Awards: Naked Wines Wins Online Business of the Year

By -

Naked Wines is an online wine retailer. Naked Wines is a group of 20,000 normal wine drinkers who sponsor 25 winemakers to make delicious wines. What makes them different is that they invest in independent winemakers, in exchange for preferential prices which they pass on to users.

Naked Wines took home the top prize (Online Business of the Year) at this year’s Startups Awards. Since launch, Naked Wines has helped 22 winemakers set up shop, create 85 new wines and sell over a million bottles between them.

Other winners of this year included e-commerce same day delivery platform Shutl, which took home the angel/VC backed award, DIG IT Projects which creates and manages allotment patches in schools, and The Thoughtful Bread Company, an environmentally friendly bakery based in Bath.
