Instacanvas is an Instagram artist marketplace that wants you to buy your favorite Instagram photos as canvas art from artists around the world. The site lets you buy, sell, and discover art and photography. Instacanvas makes it possible for any amateur artist or photographer to instantly create and curate his or her own gallery.
You can sign in with your Instagram account and set up an online gallery. Once your gallery is created, you can promote and sell your contemporary, digital photo art as printed canvases and earn 20 percent of sales. Prints start at $39.95 for 12″ x 12″ frames and go up to $79.99 for 20″ x 20″ canvases. The company ships internationally. It’s also currently testing printers in Europe and Asia to make things easier and cheaper for its international customers.
As of June 6th, the site was powering galleries for over 40,000 photographers in 30 countries and currently sees over 1.1 million unique monthly visitors. Instacanvas’s co-founder and CEO Matt Munson explained the company’s origins to Fast Company and said: “It started with the idea that there are these billions and billions of photos being created every day on Instagram and other social media platforms, and some of us on the team had an interest in selling artwork, and some of us had talked about buying it. And as we looked around all we were seeing on the walls of our apartment was mass-produced artwork that we’d bought at Ikea or Target–things we really had no personal connection to.”
Instacanvas is a graduate of Los Angeles incubator MuckerLab.
