Turntable.fm Is Now Available For Your Android

Turntable.fm, a social media website that allows users to interactively share music has launched its service for Android smartphone users today. Turntable connects you and your friends in a real time music listening experience. Play music together for free on the internet or your iPhone.

Turntable.fm until today was available online and for the iPhone. The Turntable.fm Android app has similar features like the iPhone app.

Turntable.fm lets you play music together with your friends and other people online. Each DJ takes a turn playing a song and the entire virtual room hears the song. You can vote on whether the song is awesome or lame and if it receives too many lame votes, it gets skipped. You can chat with people in your room or fan your favorite DJs so that you can find them later.

Just like in real life, everybody gets to listen and chat with each other, whichever avatar is DJing bobs its head, and everybody knows whether they have a Mac or a PC.

Unlike the desktop version, the Android app doesn’t let you add music to other services such as Spotify and Rdio.

Android Apps That Will Make You A Speed Demon

If you’re an entrepreneur, you’re probably juggling multiple tasks at any time. You’re a busy person, and don’t always like sweating the small stuff.

Fortunately, a group of excellent apps are available which make it easier to quickly do the kinds of tasks that used to be repetitive and dull. Want to set up a meeting? Manage your expenses? Use these apps not only to do things faster, but to eliminate much of the boring, repetitive actions that plague the workday.

Since I’ve equipped my office with T-Mobile Samsung cell phones, I’m partial to Android and will be suggesting apps available on the Google Play Store.

Inputting Text

For most people, I can strongly recommend SwiftKey X Keyboard ($2.99). Though it looks like any other keyboard, you’ll find over time it offers increasingly accurate word suggestions.

If you’re a bit more adventurous, 8Pen ($0.99) offers a radically new method of text input. For this, you move your fingers in circles to input letters. Sounds odd, but it works extremely well if you’re willing to learn it.

Finally, I love Inserty (Free), which collects snippets of text you can reuse over and over again. Just keep a collection of your favorite phrases, such as replies to e-mails or lengthy addresses, and insert them into any app. It’s not as fast as a desktop text expander, but it can still save you a lot of time.

Making Appointments

Pocket Informant ($12.99) offers an elegant solution to the tedious task of entering calendar events loaded with information and parameters. Using its event template feature, you can for instance have a template that contains all the information you need to set up a staff meeting.

Quick Event (Free), however, works just like the web-based Google calendar Quick Add feature to enable you to type or even speak the details of an upcoming event in plain language. (e.g. “Meeting 5 to 6 pm”)

Finances

Expensify (Free) not only offers speed, it takes much of the pain out of expense reports. This app does the work for you of tracking your spending. It connects to your bank and credit card accounts, so it’s dynamically updated. Plus, it offers a handy and surprisingly accurate tool to scan receipts of cash purchases.

MobileBiz Trial (free) is a good way to test the Mobile Biz Pro app ($22.00). This app offers tons of tools for creating invoices, sending them, and tracking them over time. Use it to save frequently used parameters such as tax rates and let it track your customers and expenses for you.

Social Media

Though it’s still in beta, Fast for Facebook (Free) offers a lightweight client for the popular social network. It’s easier to both scan through others’ posts and to add your own.

Barclays Bank Launches Pingit, A PayPal Alternative In UK

Barclays bank has launched a PaPal alternative Pingit in UK, a mobile payment app that allows customers to transfer money via their smartphone. The Pingit app, available for iPhone, BlackBerry and Android smartphones, allows accounts to be associated with mobile numbers. Each transaction is protected by a five-digit passcode, which is set by you, and payments can be between £1 and £300 with a maximum of £5,000 per day.

The app requires a bank customer to link their current account with their mobile number, this enables payments to be sent directly to that account with just a phone number for reference. To send funds, you can download the free Barclays Pingit app (available on Android, iPhone and BlackBerry) or sign-up receive mobile transfers by registering online.

“Barclays Pingit could revolutionise the way people send and receive money”, claimed Barclays chief executive Antony Jenkins at the launch. “For friends splitting the cost of dinner, repaying a borrowed £10 or people sending money to a son or daughter at university, it’s free, quick, convenient, secure, and easy to use. You can send and receive money in seconds, without having to enter account details.

Sending money
You can send up to £300 a day to family, friends and small businesses using just a mobile number, as long as you have a UK Barclays current account. Soon everybody will be able to use Barclays Pingit to send money even if their current account is with another UK bank.

Receive money
Anyone with a UK current account can register to receive payments, so you don’t have to share your bank details when asking someone to send you money. If you don’t have a Barclays current account or simply want to receive payments from other Barclays Pingit users, you just need to register online at www.barclays.co.uk/pingit.

Pingit is available to current account customers of all the other UK banks.

Official Wikipedia App for Android Is Now Available For Download

The Wikimedia Foundation has released the official Wikipedia app for Android. Tomasz Finc of Wikimedia in a soft launch announcement said:

I’m happy to report that we’ve finished our released candidates and that this afternoon we’ll be submitting version 1.0 of the Wikipedia Android application for a very quiet launch. I stress .. a very quiet launch. We don’t want any large publicity at first. Our current plan is to push to the Google market today, Amazon & F-Droid market next week, and to do PR after we see the reviews coming in late next week. That way we have time to do any fixes or workflow tweaks.

The official Wikipedia app for Android is available for download at the Android Market.

[It's Official] Google+ Now Has 90 Million Users

Google Inc today announced financial results for the quarter and the fiscal year ended December 31, 2011. And guess what, Larry Page, CEO of Google said he is super excited about the growth of Android, Gmail, and Google+.

In Larry’s words: “Google had a really strong quarter ending a great year. Full year revenue was up 29%, and our quarterly revenue blew past the $10 billion mark for the first time,” said Larry Page, CEO of Google. “I am super excited about the growth of Android, Gmail, and Google+, which now has 90 million users globally – well over double what I announced just three months ago. By building a meaningful relationship with our users through Google+ we will create amazing experiences across our services. I’m very excited about what we can do in 2012 – there are tremendous opportunities to help users and grow our business.”

Its important to note that Google is taking concrete steps to make sure the user base of its social network grows at an amazing rate. Google even started a TV ad of its Hangout feature last year and now the integration of Google+ content into search results.
