Apply Now: Y Combinator Applications for Winter 2012 Funding Are Now Open

San Francisco based startup incubator Y Combinator has today announced via Twitter that applications for Winter 2012 YC Funding are now open. Y Combinator is an American seed-stage startup funding firm, started in March 2005. Y Combinator provides seed money, advice, and connections at two 3-month programs per year. In exchange, they take an average of about 6% of the company’s equity.

If you want to apply, please submit your application online by 8 pm PT on October 10, 2011. Groups that submit early have a significant advantage because we have more time to read their applications.

On October 31, Y Combinator will invite the groups that seem most promising to meet in Mountain View during November 12-16. They will reimburse up to $600 per group for travel expenses.

As of June 2011, Y Combinator had funded 316 startups. The number of startups funded in each cycle has been gradually increasing. The first cycle in summer 2005 had eight startups. In the summer 2011 cycle, there were more than 60.

The deadline for winter 2012 applications is October 10th.

Ignite100 Launches Startup Accelerator With £1 Million Fund

ignite100 is a mentorship-led accelerator program for start-ups but with a big £100,000 difference. ignite100 provides seed capital, office space and mentors, and the runway necessary to sustain momentum after the end of the acceleration programme.

The new Ignite100 will be a startup accelerator programme with a £1m fund that will invest up to £100k per team for ten teams later this year in the North East of England. ignite100 has been launched with the support of Finance for Business North East Technology Fund, managed by IP Group plc, and from the Finance for Business North East Proof of Concept Fund, managed by Northstar Ventures, together with a group of angel investors including Hotspur Capital Partners and Green Lane Capital.

Ignite100 provide teams funding of £5,000 per founder (up to a maximum of £15,000). The founders move to Newcastle for the 13 week programme where they receive intense mentoring and business support. Subject to the teams achieving pre-agreed milestones, the balance of the £100,000 will be released in the form of a convertible loan note (it’s a straightforward deal but please see the FAQs for more detail on this).

Shopobot Reveals The Volatility of Prices for Consumer Products

Shopobot has announced its seed funding today from Google Ventures, AOL Ventures, and several strategic investors. Shopobot also opened its website to the public for the first time, revealing a new approach to online shopping where consumers have immediate access and transparency into price changes offered by online retailers.

Shopobot was formed to reveal the volatility of prices for consumer products sold online, and to help consumers use this information to gain an advantage when making purchases. It is not uncommon for retailers to change their prices several times in the course of a week and these changes can often fluctuate by as much as 20 percent. With Shopobot, consumers gain access to price changes, ultimately saving their dollars.

The company was formed in January when the founders were accepted to the AngelPad accelerator program. After their demo day presentation in March, the team received investments from both Google Ventures and AOL Ventures to grow their project.

SeedStart Media 2011, a summer program for the most innovative startup companies in digital content, e-commerce, ad infrastructure and mobile technology has begun accepting applications.

NYC SeedStart Media is a 12-week summer program designed to give seed funding to technology companies to build a product and launch their company. SeedStart is interested in companies focusing on advertising infrastructure, e-commerce, digital content, and mobile technology.

The program will give up to 10 companies $20,000, office space, and time in exchange for (5%) equity . At the end of the 12 weeks, SeedStart features an investor day where companies will have the opportunity to present to seed and early stage investors as well as potential partners and customers.

The First 11 Startups To Kickstart 500 Startups Incubator Program

500 Startups today announced the launch of an incubator to support and fund early stage companies. Each company will get seed funding and access to mentors, in exchange for equity. The program lasts for 3-6 months depending on how long each company wants to stay.

500 Startups is willing to accept companies who have already raised funding from other investors. $1,000 per founder per month will be charged from each startup.

Y Combinator: 26 New Startups Make Presentations On Demo Day

Y combinator, a startup incubator launched 26 new startups on March, 23rd 2010. Some of the startups were launched on this day at the Demo conference where the startups made presentations in the presence of potential investors. Y Combinator holds such presentations twice every year. Companies that pass out receive funding from the incubator.

26 startups made it to the top.

Other companies that provide seed funding for startups include Azione Capital, DreamIt Ventures, TheFunded, Union Square Ventures, ChubbyBrain, Okuri Ventures, bp Central, Apollo Mobile Media, Techstars and LaunchBox Digital.
