Have you ever found out about a new TV show by chatting with friends, or hearing people talk about a movie you saw a trailer for? Tunerfish’s community make this happens at all times. Tunerfish lets you share what you’re watching and discover shows, movies, and online videos.

How it works
Once you sign up on Tunerfish, you’ll see a list of the shows your Tunerfish friends have checked into (you can choose to check into content that spans television, movies, and online video) as well as trending shows. Once you’ve found something you like, you can check-in to notify the rest of your Tunerfish-using friends what you’ve come across. Updates can be syndicated to Facebook as well.

BBC Has Today Launched A New Version of BBC iPlayer for TV

The BBC has today launched a new version of BBC iPlayer for TV. The new version gives audiences the control they want directly on the TV, in a design custom-built for the living room, so the BBC iPlayer experience feels just like TV. The new version includes a simplified, TV-friendly interface that is more akin to navigating a traditional TV with a remote control.

Daniel Danker, GM of Programmes and On Demand at the BBC said, “BBC iPlayer has been tremendously successful. With today’s announcement, we’re transforming iPlayer in its most natural home: right on the living room TV. By creating a product that’s as simple and intuitive as flicking through TV channels, the BBC is bringing on demand television to mainstream audiences across the UK.”

Amazon Acquires Pushbutton(TV App Maker)

Pushbutton have announced today that Amazon.com have acquired Push Button Holdings Ltd, a UK company that develops interactive apps for connected TVs. “Pushbutton has a strong reputation for delivering amazing user experiences on connected devices,” said Greg Greeley, Amazon’s Vice President of European Retail. “They were instrumental in helping launch the LOVEFiLM player through a variety of devices, and we look forward to helping them continue to innovate on behalf of customers.”

“With Amazon and LOVEFiLM’s support, we look forward to offering our clients, as well as their customers, even more ways to access digital services in the future,” said Paula Byrne, Pushbutton Managing Director.

YouTube Launches Top 100 Chart for Music Videos

YouTube has introduced the first YouTube chart to track song popularity in user-generated and professional music videos. The YouTube 100 measures song traffic across official music videos, user-uploaded videos and viral debuts, and uses this data to provide a holistic view of song popularity.

The new chart is published weekly, and shines a new light on the YouTube community’s engagement and creativity.

Not only does the YouTube 100 give props when fans make original videos for popular songs, it also captures YouTube’s one-of-a-kind musical diversity: Nice Peter ranks on the chart alongside global radio stars, and Rebecca Black hits the Top 10.

This week Katy Perry’s E.T. lands on the Top 10 thanks to her own gravity-defying video and views on popular user videos that lay down rocking guitar solos, extra beats, sepia-tone allegory and other-worldly visuals (in this case from Brooklyn, not Mars).

Yahoo! Acquires IntoNow, A Four Months Old Startup

Yahoo! Inc., the digital media company, has announced the acquisition of IntoNow. Launched in January 2011, IntoNow has built a platform and companion TV application based on real time indexing of television that deepens the connections between audiences, television content and advertisers.

IntoNow has indexed more than five years of US based television programming, creating a rich database to build video discovery and programming experiences. IntoNow is able to identify content down to the airing, episode and time within the program as well as provide program information and links associated with it, all within a matter of seconds.

“Relying on social channels as a means for discovering content – whether it’s on a PC, mobile device, or TV – is rapidly on the rise. IntoNow’s technology combines the ability to check-in to what a consumer is watching, engage in conversations, and find related content,” said Bill Shaughnessy, SVP of Global Product Management at Yahoo!.

A New ‘Collaborative’ Angry Birds Is Coming To Facebook

Angry Birds does not cease to amaze and expand, the game has already recorded 75m downloads and it is yet to hit the biggest platform for social games. Rovio and his team have grown the company to huge franchise. The game is set to fly to Facebook where you belong later this year.

The version for Facebook features “completely new aspects to it that just haven’t been experienced in any other platform,” according to Rovio head Mikael Hed. He also confirmed that due to the social site’s ‘collaborative nature’, “the pigs will have a more prominent role”.

The studio is launching Angry Birds Rio in a matter of days, which is a tie-in with a Fox movie and swaps the villainous pigs for monkeys seen in the film.

“We’re building an integrated entertainment franchise where merchandising, games, movies, TV, cartoons and comics all come together,” said Vesterbacka.

The firm also says it will probably launch its next game – it’s 53rd – next year. In the meantime “we are building our infrastructure with Angry Birds,” said Vesterbacka. “So we have the distribution, the marketing, everything in place, so that we can basically take any IP and drop it in. And we have the capability of producing the games on all the platforms – smartphone, consoles, PCs, Mac, online, Facebook – you name it. Then the TV, the movie side, it will happen when the time is right.”

Cisco To Acquire Video-Streaming Startup Inlet For $95 Million

Cisco Systems has announced plans to acquire privately held Inlet Technologies, a provider of adaptive-bit-rate video processing platforms, for $95 million. The acquisition is aimed at supporting Cisco’s videoscape Initiative.

Inlet’s video-encoding technology adapts the quality of a video stream based on real-time network conditions as well as the capabilities of the target device.

According to Cisco, the startup will strengthen the capabilities of the Videoscape TV platform, by letting service and content providers deliver video to any device over any IP-based network.

“Cisco’s Videoscape platform will play a key role in reinventing the TV experience, and the acquisition of Inlet will enable our customers to leverage the network as a platform to deliver innovative video experiences to consumers on any device,” said Enrique Rodriguez, senior vice president and general manager of Cisco’s Service Provider Video Technology Group.
