WordPress.com gave me the basic idea of what it means to own a blog. I needed more options and the freedom to design my blog the way I wanted it. I decided to host the blog myself, hence the need to register my own domain. I registered alltopstartups at dynadot.com. I settled on alltopstartups.com because my focus has always been on top startups in the news at all times. I have always been curious to know what makes a great startup, especially what those startups are doing differently that others are not doing.
Once the domain was ready, I needed a hosting space to make blogging possible on my own. I tried a couple of hosting services and finally settled on bytehost.com. I like their service and am still working with them. Bytehost allowed me to add my newly purchased domain. I subsequently changed the name servers of my domain at dynadot with that of bytehost.
WordPress Installation
Bytehost allows users to upload their own files or choose from their multiple cms packages. I used their script installer for my wordpress installation as shown below.
After the successful installation of wordpress, it was easy to install the plugins and the theme I prefer with bytehost’s ftp file manager. Most of the plugins I use are found in this list . And I found this useful when searching for my theme.
