Groupon Launches in Billings, Montana And Kingston, Ontario

Groupon, a shopping website that offers a daily deal on the best local goods, services and cultural events in more than 500 markets around the world has launched in Billings and Kingston, Ontario.

During its first week in Billings, Groupon’s featured deals included salon services and a local pizzeria. Upcoming deals include hockey tickets, a ski resort getaway and café fare.

In a statement to mark the launch of the service in Billings, Rob Solomon, president and chief operating officer of Groupon said: “As Montana’s largest city and offering plenty to see and do, Billings is an ideal Groupon market, We look forward to bringing residents of Billings unbeatable deals from top local businesses, while creating new revenue streams for area merchants.”

In a similar event to commence the exansion of Groupon to Kingston, Rob Solomon, president and chief operating officer of Groupon. Said “Known for its arts, entertainment and higher education, Kingston is an excellent match for the Groupon model, We look forward to bringing unbeatable deals to Kingston students and residents, while driving new streams of revenue to local merchants.”

During its first week in Kingston, Groupon’s featured deals included hair salon services, yoga classes and a sports pub. Upcoming deals include film festival tickets and a gourmet cupcake bakery.

Using the principles of collective buying, Groupon negotiates unprecedented discounts with popular businesses. Groupon subscribers get free daily emails alerting them to the deals. The deals are activated only when a minimum number of people agree to buy, encouraging subscribers to share the promotion with family and friends.
