The Appys are all about acknowledging extraordinary Applications, whether they be mobile, social, or Web-based Apps living inside another Web site. Winners were announced at the Appy Awards gala event on Monday, February 28, 2011 at the conclusion of the first day of MediaPost’s annual OMMA Global Conference & Expo in San Francisco, CA.
Appys receives submissions for consideration for an award which includes a “brief” with a detailed description of the app’s features, as well as any anecdotes, supporting facts, or figures that illustrate its creativity and accomplishment. Briefs are fewer than 300 words in length.

Movies by Flixster– This app is all-inclusive: Find a theater, buy tickets or rent a flick from iTunes. Flixster also tracks restaurants near theaters, lets you connect with Facebook friends to share recommendations and manages your Netflix queue.

Chase GiftShelf – The app lets Chase card members send a mobile gift card via text message or email. Users can add a personalized message, too.

Rhythm Racer 2 –Tying a racing game to music from major artists including Boston, The All-American Rejects, The Prodigy and The Crystal Method, Rhythm Racer promises players an exhilarating listening and gaming experience.

The Knot Weddings Magazine -The Knot’s app creators sought to expand readers’ use of the pub’s print edition as a wedding-planning tool by adding social networking capabilities, enhancing scrapbooking, and providing a richer interactive experience.

O, The Oprah Magazine February 2011 -Beauty, wit and creativity sparkle throughout the O Magazine February 2011 App. Users are guided by an intuitive iPad interface through a tour de force of clever animations, hyperlinks, exclusive videos, easy-to-save and share content and integrated e-commerce features.

Goby -Goby is a location-based app with a whimsical interface. Its goal is to help users “create [their] own adventure.” The app first gets your current location, then gives you three options: Find cool stuff nearby, make weekend plans and explore a new location.

Newsy for iPad- Newsy takes a curated approach to presenting news videos on the iPad. Topical reports from multiple news outlets are accessed and analyzed, compared and delivered in two-minute video segments.

Photobucket Android App -a photo storage solution, The “set-it-and-forget-option” automatically uploads photos from the users’ Photobucket album as soon as they are taken. Then, once the photos are uploaded to the Photobucket album, providing easy access across platforms, the management tools are straightforward and make sense.
