Foursquare Surpasses 10 Million Users

Foursquare CEO Dennis Crowley has announced that the location his company has surpassed the 10 million user mark.

Foursquare is a location-based mobile platform that makes cities easier to use and more interesting to explore. By “checking in” via a smartphone app or SMS, users share their location with friends while collecting points and virtual badges.

In Dennis Crowley’s own words, Foursquare was “born around the kitchen table from the ashes of everything else he’s done“, The location based app reached the 8 million mark at the end of March, growing by 2 million members in just a month a half!.

Foursquare was launched in March 2009, and has reached 10 million member is just over two years. The company has since raised a total of $21.4 million in funding from Ashton Kutcher, Andreessen Horowitz, Union Square Ventures and others.
