SoundHound, a sound search company, today announced it is joining forces with digital music service Spotify to enable both free and paid SoundHound users in Europe to instantly access Spotify’s catalogue of over 15 million tracks.

Spotify’s Premium subscribers can now take advantage of SoundHound’s best-in-class music search and discovery features, including its blazing fast music recognition and unique sing and hum recognition.

Starting today, SoundHound users on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android devices who also subscribe to Spotify Premium in Europe will be given the option to ‘Play Now in Spotify’ after identifying a song through SoundHound. If the user chooses the option, SoundHound will then seamlessly launch Spotify’s service, immediately playing the requested song while showcasing the requested artist’s singles, albums and compilations.

“Spotify is a natural fit with SoundHound, the most groundbreaking mobile music search and discovery platform in the world,” said Katie McMahon, vice president at SoundHound Inc. “Our European users have been requesting seamless access to Spotify, and today they can enjoy SoundHound’s fast, beautiful and unlimited music search and discovery with instant access to listening to full tracks.”

“Spotify and SoundHound share a desire to offer their users access to the music they love, whenever and wherever they want it,” said Ken Parks, Spotify’s chief content officer. “The partnership between Spotify and SoundHound will offer SoundHound’s users access to a compelling mobile music discovery experience.”
