Rapportive, a browser plugin that shows you everything about your contacts right inside your Gmail will soon be acquired by LinkedIn. Sources close to the story including Techrunch has stated that LinkedIn has acquired the contact management startup for about $15 million. Rapportive team is yet to issue a formal statement to that effect. LinkedIn has also not made formal announcement about the acquisition yet.
Rapportive which currently allows you to see what people look like, where they’re based, and what they do when they communicate with your via Gmail. You can establish rapport by mentioning shared interests. You can grow your network by connecting on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and more. And you can record thoughts for later by leaving notes. Rapportive makes it easy to connect with people you communicate with instantly if you are not already connected to them. In the case of LinkedIn, you can know immediately if you are not connected to a Gmail contact on LinkedIn and you can soon send them an invitation to connect.
Rapportive was founded in 2010. The company raised $1 million that same year from Charles River Ventures, Dave McClure, Paul Buchheit, Jason Calacanis, Gary Vaynerchuk, Shervin Pishevar and Venture Hacks.
