Enticing Other Sites to Give You Backlinks

Getting backlinks from other popular sites in your niche serves a number of different purposes. First off, and perhaps the most obvious benefit, is getting back links to help you in the search engines. However, many webmasters have lost sight of the fact that back links can provide you with some much-needed traffic. Being able to secure backlinks from high-traffic websites, can sometimes bring in as much traffic as a high rank on a middle-of-the-road keyword. There are a few different things that you can do to entice other webmasters to link back to your site, whether in a positive or negative context.

Critique Their Articles

To start, try finding a post that you either strongly agree, or disagree with in your niche. You do not have to be rude or mean to be able to properly critique the posts in a negative light, although it can help you to get some much-needed attention from said webmaster. However, any attention that you give to their website, that looks like it is interesting and well thought out, will likely incite some sort of attention from them. This is an excellent way to get people to mention your website and also build relationships with other webmasters in your niche to trade traffic in the future. Most of the time, it is going to be in your best interests to play nice and make sure that you’re not being overly critical, because sometimes negative attention can be more hurtful than positive attention.

Build a Connection

Another popular method that you can use this to build an ongoing connection with the webmaster. Start by leaving comments on their website, and participating in a real discussion about the issues that they are speaking about. Keeping your name in their comments section lets them know that you are interested in what they have to say, and naturally makes them more interested in what you have to say. Try to find websites in which the webmasters actively participate in the discussion in their comments section, because these people will be more likely to engage in conversation with you, and then ultimately link to you.

Find Them on Social Networks

You can also interact with the webmasters outside of their website. Many of these webmasters are going to be on social networks, which can be a great way for you to interact with them and perhaps entice them to link back to you in some way. Speaking to a webmaster on twitter about your niche, asking questions you may have about their website, and making it clear to them that you are a webmaster in the same niche, makes it more likely that they will be willing to link back to you in some capacity at some point in the future.

Mostly, enticing legitimate backlinks from webmasters mostly depends on your ability to interact with them and them to feel obliged to link to you. Let them get to know you, and your website, and the link should come naturally.
