Instagram is by far the biggest mobile photo sharing app on the market. The app is compatible with any iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 3.1.2 or above or any Android device running Android 2.2 or above. Instagram allows you to take photos, apply a filter, and share it on the service or other social networking services, including Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Tumblr, Flickr, and Posterous.
But there is a new competitor on the block, BeFunky. The app has been around since 2007. Last month the company launched a free photo-editing tool for Android and iPhone. The free version has 20 photo effects and 15 frames, with the Pro version having 55 effects and 40 borders. These include Sketch, Pinhole, Black and White, Vintage, and Retro along with many others. Each of these effects can be adjusted to increase or decrease intensity through a sliding scale the same way that Brightness and Saturation can be adjusted.
Unlike Instagram, users can make subtle or extreme variations to brightness, hues, and tones. And you can store your original photos along with what you create at BeFunky either privately or publicly. BeFunky also allows you to preview changes to an image before you finalize them.
BeFunky Gallery has a database of thousands of edited photos that you can comment on, rate, or share.
In recent times the app has recorded 5 million active monthly users and 500,000 daily users that create 50 million photos each month. BeFunky runs on your desktop, IOS and Android devices individually tailored for each device.
