So you’ve paid your tuition fees and have gone through business school. Feel like it was worth all that money? It certainly will have been, and will help you get a great job. However, no course can teach you every single thing you need to know to succeed in business. To get to the top of the career ladder, you need to do a lot of learning on the job. To help you get there, here are some of the important skills you won’t have learned at school.
How to seal a deal
You will already know everything that makes a good deal. And you will know which signs should flag up a potentially bad agreement or contract. But are you confident you know how to seal a deal? Most of this is to do with your confidence and how you hold yourself in meetings.
Clients need to have faith in you before they sign on a dotted line. So be sure to develop your communication skills. You need to be able to talk the talk as well as walk the walk if you ever want to seal a deal.
Sell yourself before you sell anything else
There are loads of computer programs that can help you sell products. In fact, good software is a smart choice for sales enablement services. This new tech can help you go so far with your sales. But you still need to be able to sell yourself if you ever want to sell plenty of products.
Especially if part of your job is client-facing. People are more likely to buy something if the salesperson is confident and comes across as very professional. So make sure you tick all those boxes!
Keep on reading
Just because you have graduated from business school doesn’t mean you should stop reading. Quite the contrary! All of the top businessmen have an extremely long book list of titles that they want to read.
And I don’t mean the latest fiction bestseller. You need to read books that are related to your industry and sector. By continually learning and widening your horizons, you will continue to develop and grow within the company.
Be prepared to be proven wrong
Business trends are changing faster than most people can keep up with. And the things that were taught at business school twenty years ago might not have appeared on your course.
So don’t be shocked if you find out that knowledge you gained at school is eventually proven wrong. This happens in various jobs. Just keep your head down and try and keep up with all the latest business trends, and you won’t go too far wrong.
Human behavior is important
Business isn’t just numbers and statistics. Human behavior goes into a lot of it as well. But you won’t hear that at business school. If you are a good people person and can deal with all the figures, then you will go very far in business. At the end of the day, succeeding in business is all about trying to get what you want from people!
