Running a business is a complex task. There are millions of businesses around the world, and probably thousands that are similar to yours, meaning that you’re constantly competing with other companies for your custom. Being a business owner often means long hours in the office, starting from very early in the day and ending well past dinner in the evening.
While this is sometimes essential, it can quickly take its toll on your mental and physical health if it’s something that you’re doing regularly. Sometimes working from home might seem like it’s counterproductive, but here are six reasons that you should work from home every once in a while.
1. Quality family time
One of the main reasons that people choose from home is so that they can spend more time with their family that they would otherwise be missing out on. Even if you are working, being around to spend that little bit more time with them is a blessing in itself. Also, sometimes the commute to work is one of the main reasons that you’re home so late and leaving that early in the morning. Cutting out the commuting will give you even more quality family time.
2. Peace and quiet
Working in an office is hectic, and often there’s chit chat all around you which can very quickly become distracting. Working from home every now and then will allow you to work in peace and quiet, meaning that you should be able to get more done than you would have in the office with all of the distractions. The worry of being unable to communicate with staff members if needed may be there, but you can always invest in some business telephone systems so that you can quickly and efficiently get hold of staff if needed, and vice versa.
3. Absence makes the heart grow fonder
The saying ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’ doesn’t always mean in relation to love for another person. It can mean the same thing for the love and passion that you have for your business. Being away from it for small periods of time can give you clarity and make you realize how much you really do love your business. When you’re dealing with a high amount of stress, sometimes removing yourself from the situation can be just what you needed.
4. Temporary business hours
Another reason that people choose to work from home is that you have much more freedom than if you were working from the office. You have the option to change what hours you’re working temporarily while you’re out of the office. You might choose to do this if you’re planning a trip away or have to watch the children while your partner is out working. The freedom to be able to work at any time of the day makes working from home much more appealing.
5. Different place = new sources of inspiration
Sometimes working in the same place day in and day out can become monotonous. You see the same faces, the same four walls and you can lose motivation quickly. Ideas stop flowing and this can greatly affect your business. Taking the opportunity to work from home every once in a while will allow you to work in different scenery and possibly gain more inspiration. Why not work in the garden on those sunny days so that you can give yourself an even bigger chance of inspiration?
6. For your mental and physical health
As mentioned earlier, seeing the same people day in and day out, hearing the same chit-chat, the same gossip, and seeing the same four walls is enough to drive anyone a little crazy sometimes. When you’re feeling stressed, there’s a chance you turn to food to comfort you from what’s going on around you. This, in the long run, can affect your mental and physical health, so taking a break from it all, even if it’s only temporary, can do you the world of good.
Don’t forget that if you’re struggling with your mental and physical health that you should always visit your GP.
As you can see, there are six great reasons to work from home every once in a while. If you ever get the chance of doing so, it’s definitely recommended so that you can experience the balance between office work and working from home!
