5 Basic Measures to Prevent Theft in Your Business

Choose to place curtains and metal security doors with secure locks, which hinder access to your business when no one is present.

Does your business have all the security tools and protocols to avoid being the victim of theft of money, merchandise or valuable objects?

Today, more than ever, you must take a series of provisions that help you diminish the possibility of such an event occurring.

Property violations, robberies, and thefts, especially from business premises are becoming more common, as thieves become ever-more advanced in their techniques.

Experts in security in Oxford offer some recommendations that will help you to provide better security for your staff, your clients, and your business:

Install surveillance cameras

Although it obviously implies an investment, surveillance cameras are very useful instruments that will help you to take care of your business and control the actions of the people who enter it, as well as the behaviour of the personnel.

If an event happens, surveillance footage will allow you to identify the responsible persons and you can send the video to the authorities to give them evidence for prosecution.

Today, there are even modern cameras with intelligent software.

Hire a security guard

On the other hand, if it is within your means and depending on the type of products and services you sell, you may consider hiring a security guard.

Before hiring a security guard, research the person, agency, or company well. It is not always the case, but sometimes the criminal acts that take place in a business are perpetrated by the workers themselves or they act as informants for the criminals.

Always make it a point before hiring anyone to investigate the worker’s background, as well as following up references from the person, and their previous employers.

Many workers in their day to day activities will be in contact with cash, electronic deposits, or even the merchandise they handle, whether a raw material or finished product. It is important to have employees with the ideal profile.

Incorporate alarms in your store and your products

The inclusion of alarms contributes to monitoring your establishment at times when no one is present and to prevent the entry of thieves into your business.

In case they do enter the premises, an alarm can frighten them and persuade them to leave the site.

There are also alarms that can be installed directly on products, such as labels or special codes that adhere to them, as well as plastic devices that are placed on goods such as textiles.

If someone takes an item, when leaving the store and goes through the so-called anti-theft antennas or smart systems that are installed, an alarm will sound warning the business that someone has stolen an item.

Install electronic means of payment

The incorporation of a card payment system has several advantages: it helps avoid losing customers who do not carry enough cash and contributes to your company not having so much physical cash on site, which can be easily stolen from your cash register.

Retail businesses are encouraged to try to reduce as much as possible the use of cash as a means of payment and continue to stimulate electronic payment by customers.

Likewise, it is recommended to make payments from your company electronically and not visit the bank with large amounts of money.

Use good quality padlocks and security shutters/grilles

Always remember to close locks with a double turn of the key and, if you use padlocks, use those that are of good quality and more difficult to be violated.

Another option is to place metal grilles and security doors with secure locks, which make it difficult to enter your business when there is no one in it. If you resort to this type of infrastructure, make sure it is properly installed.

Check that your windows and other areas are not vulnerable and, if they are, change or reinforce them.

It is essential not to leave valuables in sight; hide them well, or store them in a safe place, which is difficult to access.

Careful planning and forethought can help keep your business, your clients, and yourself safe, and avoid the need to deal with a break-in, robbery, and the aftermath of such events.
