Are you preparing for your first day on a new job? Here are some helpful recommendations on how to make a good first impression and become friends with your colleagues.

So it happened! After checking numerous vacancies on jobsora.com and going to the interviews, you finally got a job. However, once you pass through a job searching rush, you have to face a new challenge. How to fit in and become friends with new colleagues?

It is natural to worry about making friends at a new job place. You will spend hours with these people working together on different tasks every day. It would be much easier to work in a friendly atmosphere. No worries! Here are four useful tips that will make your new-coworkers like you.

1. Be initiative

The best thing to make a good first impression on your new colleagues is not to be a loner and show some initiative. Do not wait for others to say hello, do it first. Then introduce yourself to start small talk.

Do not be afraid to approach people working next to you and say a few words. Ignoring others would be so much worse. Show some interest in your co-workers. Write down their names in order not to forget them.

Social media pages help to quickly discover more about your colleagues. Ask your co-workers if you can add them on social networks. It will help you to become friends faster.

2. Maintain positive attitude

Smiling is the easiest thing to do in order to make others like you. However, it is possible to forget about it considering the first-day anxiety. Listen to some music before coming to the office. It will help you to relax and be in a good mood.

Positivity is very attractive to others. It is better to avoid complaining and sharing your negative experiences. No one wants to be around pessimists.

The only thing that is more important than positivity is being sincere. People will quickly notice if your smile is fake. Thus, try to keep a positive mood but do it sincerely.

3. Tell about yourself

The people in the office are likely to be curious about a new worker. Be ready to answer the questions about yourself. Give them some information about your interests. It is a good way to start a friendship.

Talking is not the only way to show your personality. Decorate your desk bringing some photos or plants. It will help others to find out more about you and start the conversation.

Another great idea is to bring your favorite treats and share with your colleagues. Thus, your co-workers will find out about your tastes. It would be even better to offer something homemade and share the recipe.

4. Bond outside the office

The friendship between co-workers is often built outside the office. You might share a lot of tasks and still do not know each other. That is why it is better to spend time in a more casual atmosphere.

The simplest thing is to invite your co-worker for a coffee or lunch during a break. It is a good way to get to know each other and refresh your brain. You can also make a friendly gesture and pay for your co-worker’s coffee. He would probably offer to pay for yours next time and you will meet again.

Another good idea is to offer your colleagues to have some drinks after work. There are usually some cafes or bars near any workplace. It would be easier to connect in a casual environment. Once you spend some time together outside the office you will see each other at a whole new level. The communication at work will become easier as well.

These are the easiest ways to make a good impression on your co-workers and start a friendship. Remember that building relationship requires time and it is ok if you will not become the best buddies on your first day there. Be patient and do not worry too much. Your colleagues are probably also intimidated by the news about a newbie in the team.
