Why Are Electric Mopeds Growing In Popularity?

Have you noticed the popularity of electric mopeds lately? Electric mopeds are slowly taking over our roads, even though you may not at first actually notice. Electric mopeds used to be obvious in their design. Today however, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Not only has technology made huge advancements but the design of electric scooters and mopeds have come a long way too, so much so that they often ride our roads unnoticed.

Electric Mopeds offer more than you think

Looks aside, there are a number of reasons why electric mopeds have grown in popularity so much over the last few years and continue to do so now.

They’re affordable

When it comes to electric vehicles, affordability doesn’t , spring to mind. Electric scooters, on the other hand, are much more affordable than most people realise. In fact, we’d go so far as to say they’re just as affordable as regular bikes, if not more so. Starting from just £1,495, you could own the Model 30 City Electric with incredible range and capability, ideal for city living and commuting to work.

On just one single charge you could enjoy zipping throughout the city. Leasing options available from us at E Rider make them even more affordable too with the above–mentioned scooter being available from as little as £80 per month. That’s a fully electric vehicle for less than £100 per month.

They’re environmentally friendly

whether you live near London or not, you’ll know about the Congestion Zone as well as the Ultra Low Emission Zone. The purpose of both of these is simply to reduce emissions and reduce traffic in and around the city. Simply entering these zones could cost you a huge amount on a daily basis.

With an electric moped howevernot only do you escape the congestion zone charge but you also escape the low emissions zone charge too as they produce zero emissions. To put this into perspective, imagine a scooter runs for an average of 10 miles a day, that would equal approximately 3,500g of carbon per scooter daily.

With an electric scooter however, you’d produce 0g. Imagine the reduction that would see over the course of a year for one single person. Then imagine if everyone were to do the same. Our reduction across the board would be phenomenal.

They save you money

Now while we may have mentioned their affordability, what we didn’t mention was their ability to save you money too. Running a regular scooter is cheaper than running a car. They require less fuel for a start. An electric moped however, is even cheaper still.

Electric scooters are free to tax, require no MOT and require very little maintenance due to the fact they have no petrol run engine. That means no tinkering needed, barely any spare parts to contend with. The biggest part of the bike that you’ll need to worry about is the battery however, your battery will last you for many years to come.

They’re far more capable now

Back in the day when electric mopeds were first introduced, their capabilities were minimal. Their speeds were barely able to cope with our roads. Fast forward to today however and we have electric mopeds here at E Rider capable of up to 80km’s in range and running at speeds of 45km/h. In and out of our city centres, commuters find them the ideal mode of transport.
