4 Unexpected Ways You Can Learn More About Your Employees

Whether you’re the CEO of a business or th head of your own in-house team, it’s important to understand the strengths and weakness of your workforce. One way of doing this is by learning more about all your staff and finding out what makes them tick.

By removing the cloak of ‘boss’ you’ll be able to , and they’ll reciprocate your casual approach to management. If you’re looking for more ways to engage with your workforce, then you’ve come to the right place. Here are just a few ways you can improve your employees’ job satisfaction.

Always listen

Listening to your staff is one of the most important parts of your job, and innovative new programmes like Lifeworks employee assistance apps make this far easier. While you may consider yourself to be an understanding boss who takes on-board the ideas and feelings of your workforce, if you’re not implementing those ideas then it’s pointless. Actively listening to your staff will allow you to form closer relationships and begin to understand what they like and don’t like about working for your company.

Your workforce is only as good as your least happy member of staff, so always try your best to be inclusive of everyone within the group and listen to peoples’ issues regardless of their status within the business. If you can help pull the people at the bottom up and create a little community at work, then you’re already halfway to success.

Regular appraisals

Regular staff appraisals are a great way to gauge the mindsets of your employees and how they’re performing. Some staff will respond better vocalising their opinions in a group environment while others prefer the privacy of the board room. Try and make these appraisals casual and stress-free; this will allow your employees to open up to you and be honest about their views about the business.

Not only this, positive appraisals will allow you to consider the next steps to take and what goals to make before your next staff appraisal, thus encouraging continuous growth in your workforce and also motivating them to succeed by making them feel like a valuable part of the business.

Monitor their behaviours

It’s always a good idea to monitor the behaviours of your staff in the most casual way possible. If you understand the personalities of your workforce then you’ll be better placed to realise when they’re perhaps not happy with how things are going, or perhaps when they need a bit of positive reinforcement or motivation. Regularly keeping tabs on your staff will make them feel valued and also allow any grievances to be aired before they turn into bigger problems than they need to be.

Staff nights out

Ah staff night out, we all love them. Staff nights out are not only a great way to get a drink with co-workers, but they also allow you to find out a little more about your colleagues. It can sometimes be difficult to find common ground while in the confines of the office, and it’s often only outside of office on these recreational days out when people’s true personalities are realised, and friendships can be made. A close-knit workforce is great for the success of your business.

There are many different ways you can get to know your staff and make your office a perfect place to work for everyone. Always listen to your staff and motivate them to do the best for your business, the relationship between boss and colleague is always a two-way street.
