Should You Delegate?

When you had a vision of what you want your business to look like, it’s likely you didn’t imagine having to take on tasks that you have no experience with, or interest in at all. A startup usually comes from an idea or passion that someone wants to turn into their life long career. So when you’re struggling with knowledge or time in a particular area, what is the answer?

It sounds obvious, but most business owners refuse to delegate at the beginning until they find themselves unable to cope with the workload, and by that point, you could be losing money in the wrong places, which is anywhere at the end of the day!

Get advice

It’s recommended that when you start, you speak to seasoned business owners, and find out which tasks they wish they had delegated from the beginning. Work out exactly where your skills are, where your weaknesses lie and what you can do to make sure all the workload is covered before you get started. Prevention is better than cure, and you will be grateful you did in the long run! There are plenty of resources available to help you with this process and with the internet accessible to everyone you can set some time aside to make sure you research what you need to do to avoid mistakes which will save you a lot of time and potentially money too.

Outsource

You can now outsource pretty much anything business-related, web design, account management, SEO, social media or admin. It doesn’t matter what it is, you will find someone who will help provide a service to cover that need. Does it make sense to sit learning about SEO and wasting your time working out exactly what it all means? Or does it make more sense to have a little faith, and hire some outsourcing companies to handle the more simple tasks while you take care of the real business?

Find trustworthy helpers

If outsourcing isn’t your thing, there are always other options you can try.

The reason we see so many ”family” run businesses is that the trust within a family SHOULD be higher than from just hiring people from outside of the company, you know your family, you know they care about you and the business, and you know them really well! But what about if this isn’t an option?

You don’t happen to have some spare relatives with nothing better to do? Well, ask for recommendations from other people, find out who the best SEO expert in your area, visit a networking event in your area, and you might find your next accountant or social media manager sat waiting for you!

So taking the plunge to start your own business might feel a little daunting at times, but accepting help is an essential step in becoming a successful business person. Of course, everyone starts small and builds from there, but an incredible team of people is going to ensure you will end up leading the way in your chosen field.
