How a Startup Can Keep Morale High With Staff Working Long Hours

The startup world can be exciting with huge financial rewards but often times these rewards come with long hours for staff incorporated. Younger employees tend to like the pace of a startup with those with families much less attracted to working irregular hours to complete a project.

The morale of the employees is extremely important as negative attitudes can lead to a drop in terms of production. Bonuses are not always the answer as even well-paid employees can be very negative if this is the general energy in the office. The following are tips to keep morale high even when staff is putting in long hours. 

Work from home days 

The one aspect that can keep morale high is that of allowing staff to work at home on certain days of the week. This can allow them to save time through not needing to commute allowing them to work long hours without getting out of the office at 8PM. There are going to be those employees that finish projects incredibly fast but make sure you do not overload them with work. They can have a higher output of production but should not be struggling to hit deadlines due to the volume of work that they have. Keeping those that are the best producers happy is important as people look to them for guidance and often times they are leaders in the office and not just in production.

Free lunch goes a long way

Providing lunch can actually increase productivity as people are not taking longer lunches than they should. This also gives a startup the ability to dictate the menu as greasy foods are coupled with the desire to take a nap for a few hours after the meal. Free lunches are appreciated and with increased productivity this can help shorten the workday. Meetings during a lunch break will have to be discussed but if getting out of the office at a reasonable hour is the goal, this needs to be implemented in some cases.

Areas to truly take a break 

Areas in the office that are truly workfree zone can provide people with a time to rejuvenate during the day. A zero gravity massage chair or two can allow a person that otherwise would have been negative time to put whatever happened negative into perspective.

Too many times the breakrooms are used for meetings which makes people that brought their lunch eat at their desks. In colder climates going outside to eat simply is not an option during certain times of the year. Create these areas and make sure they are respected by management as well as staff. 

Outsource certain tasks that can seem mundane (save money and keep attitudes positive)

There are things incorporated into a job like that of data entry that can easily be outsourced. Not only can this be outsourced for a majority of the company but it will also save money. There are plenty of data entry professionals overseas willing to work for cheap prices for quality work.

This will allow your in-house employees to spend their time doing the job they were hired for like that of sales or marketing rather than do a draining task that can be handled at a more affordable price. Automation can also help streamline jobs to make them more enjoyable as well as tools that collect data instead of having to collect it manually. 

Keep morale high in the office by being proactive as management as this can make all of the difference in the world. People that enjoy coming to work will not have a problem working longer than the average person.
