XEV, an Italian car manufacturer has unveiled it’s 3D Printed Electric Car on Kickstarter! The company’s mission is to reduce the waste of materials, time and money created by traditional manufacturing.
“What we have developed is a car that massively reduces the cost of driving, produces no pollution and allows a level of personalisation far beyond what is currently available today,” the company said on Kickstarter.
Previously called LSEV and now branded YoYo, the 3D-printed car is made from just 57 components — a big step down from the thousands of parts that make up a conventional car.
The YoYo is a small, all-electric 2 seat car that we’ve designed to be perfectly adapted to the modern urban environment. Compact dimensions of just 2.5m x 1.5m mean you can park it almost anywhere, whilst its torquey electric motor allows you to zip around the traffic cleanly and efficiently. XEV has been working on the 3D-printed electric car since 2016.
According to the project’s Kickstarter page, XEV is targeting a production start date of August 2020. To reach that goal, it’s seeking $552,834 in funding by February 6, 2020. Small pledges are rewarded with fridge magnets, T-shirts, and scale models, but larger contributions allow backers to reserve actual cars (in Europe, at least).
From just €5999, the YoYo is one of the cheapest new cars you can buy. They’ve achieved this by intelligently simplifying the design down to fewer pieces, which in turn has allowed them to focus on the things that really matter like dynamics, safety and quality.
