With the uncertain Covid-19 situation affecting our day-to-day lives, our daily work routine has been turned upside down. Most people in the UK have now been working from home for numerous weeks and it’s important that employers are checking up on staff often. Utility Bidder conducted a survey of 1,000 workers to see if they believed they are currently being supported enough during this pandemic.
When respondents were asked if they believe their employer had provided wellbeing support, it is surprisingly that 13% said they have had no support at all. Companies can look at improving wellbeing by providing mental health support, tips for working at home and conducting online fitness classes.
On the survey results, 37% of respondents admitted to feeling worried that their employer didn’t think they were working hard enough at home. By setting daily or weekly targets this can help staff feel like they are still achieving and working to a required standard. Check ins such as Zoom meetings can also help staff feel like they’re keeping up to date.
Many people will be missing the work environment, while others will prefer working alone in their homes. Another question that was asked is what respondents miss most about working in the office, 31% missed their colleagues and 23% missed the work routine they had. It is important employers encourage communication while we are in lockdown, such as having group chats on WhatsApp or Google Hangouts. Also, having weekly fun quizzes to take a break from work is also a popular idea amongst companies.
Keeping staff at home during this Covid-19 pandemic is essential for safety and managers should be taking time to read up on useful tips. While most companies have expressed that productivity has risen since lockdown, it is important to keep checking up on staff to avoid employees facing difficulties alone.
