The past year’s events have drastically changed the way we look at certain aspects of our lives; what we once considered to be part of daily life and normal now seems like a distant memory.
We’re talking, of course, about the 9-5 work routine in the office.
Many companies, small and large, realised swiftly that working at home was not only possible, it was, at times, better than working in an office. A large number of us were more productive in our own spaces; we found fewer distractions – the corporate kind, those of the domestic nature likely increased tenfold – and many workers decided to stretch out flexible or remote working long after the offices reopened.
However, this fantastic perk that has emerged is not without its challenges.
Teamwork and team training are so beneficial for many industries, especially the creative industry, but with half of us in the office and the other half working from home, it can be difficult to communicate effectively and train people in the same way we used to.
As a result of this difficulty, many industries lack training, especially within the last 18 months, which is detrimental to individuals and the companies as a whole. With so many in-depth training courses, there is no reason we should leave this behind – it just might need to be more virtual.
So with that in mind, let’s take a look at the reasons why you shouldn’t give up on team training.
Improve Communication
Training your team is such a necessity for the communication company-wide to improve and the quality of work to continue being produced at a high standard. Team training results in more effective bonds between staff – no matter the organisation structure. This, in turn, means that employees work better together and communicate more efficiently.
Especially now that some of us are working from home full time and might never be in the office, we must ensure that everyone is trained well enough on best practices and changes in the industry that affects our work. This includes communicating those and accommodating any changes in company practice seamlessly into the working day.
It is also required that we communicate with each other and update work progress for it to be completed effectively and efficiently, without incurring delays. As it’s easy for work to slip through the cracks when not everyone is kept up to date. Team training courses can be a great way to highlight any gaps in current processes – and offers opportunities to fix those.
Without this training being kept up no matter where you are, many companies will start to see very different levels of work performance as some excel and others get left behind and forgotten about while working from home.
Working as one
Any team works best when they are working collaboratively and as one unit. This isn’t easy to replicate on a computer screen rather than in person.
You can’t check in with each other more regularly, but it can become increasingly difficult to check on the progress of work and the standard at which the work is being produced.
Team training will help us overcome this hurdle as we adapt to this hybrid environment of working, learning, and understanding new ways of communicating and working on group projects from different rooms and possibly different parts of the country.
Training will not just teach us new ways of working together. Still, individually it helps create motivation and resilience to our working standards to stay positive and work effectively during the intermittent period. The process of remote group working is ironed out.
Upskill your team
There is only one way for employees to progress and improve their work – by learning, whether through theory or in practice.
This is why training is an essential aspect of any workplace that wishes to move forward and grow. Ensuring that your staff are trained to the best of their ability will reflect this in their work. And after a while, it starts to go far beyond that. It’s not just the company they are producing impeccable work for, but it starts to affect the industry – better work improves the overall standard and helps move the industry in the right direction.
By understanding how the industry functions and produces work, anyone can implement their ideas to this best practice and adapt it to something new and more efficient. It is one of the best ways for industries to continue moving forward and producing new and innovative ways of working.
We are all trying to find a way to best work together as we learn and adapt to this new normal; it will not be an overnight fix and will require some trial and error in certain practices for each industry and company to find what works best for them.
However, just because one aspect of our working environment is changing, we should lose some truly beneficial and integral elements of work. Training is still relevant and necessary for companies to work to stay at a high standard and move forward and progress to stay efficient and relevant.
