4 Easy Habits That Will Increase Productivity

What if you could get more done during your day without spending more time completing tasks? It’s possible when you form these habits that will increase your productivity!

How much time do you waste during the day scrolling mindlessly on your phone through social media or marketing emails? Probably more than you would like to admit. Now you can use your time better and get more done. You’ll also quit your habit of procrastinating, which can have a huge negative effect on your workday.

Below are four easy habits you can form that will increase your productivity.

Avoid Multitasking

There’s a common misconception that multitasking helps you get more done during the day. Unfortunately, this makes you even less productive than if you were to focus on just one task at a time. When you multitask, you’re only giving half of your attention to the tasks at hand; therefore, it often takes you double the time to finish them both.

When you can’t give all of your attention to a task, it takes you longer, and you’re even more prone to make mistakes.

Use the Pomodoro Technique

Our attention span only lasts for about 20 minutes before we start to think about other things. Therefore, you should only work in sprints of 20 to 25 minutes with a five-minute break between. This is known as the Pomodoro Technique.

After four or five of these sprints, you’ll then take a longer break of about half an hour before starting the routine over again. This is one of the most effective productivity habits you can form.

Eliminate Distractions

Once you sit down to complete a task, make sure to eliminate any distractions that may come up. One way to do this is to silence notifications on your phone. Whenever you see your screen light up with a new email, text, or social media notification, you’re bound to get distracted and check it only to get lost down the rabbit hole of scrolling through new posts and updates.

Keep your phone in another room or put it on do not disturb. Put on your headphones to keep outside distractions at bay as well.

Make Fewer Decisions

Our brains only have so much capacity to make decisions throughout the day. One way to increase your productivity is to make fewer decisions every day. For example, thinking about what to wear every morning or what to eat three times a day can use up a lot of your mental power.

Instead, set out your outfits the night before and create a meal plan for the week, so you know exactly what you’re going to cook. If you don’t have time to cook every day, you can use meal prep services like Lean Kitchen Company to prepare your meals and deliver them for you.

Eliminating just these two instances of making decisions can free up so much mental space for you to focus on more important tasks at hand throughout the day.
