The analysis reveals significant opportunities across Europe, with Germany, the UK, and the Netherlands leading in both salary offerings and job availability. Eastern European markets including Poland, Czech Republic, and Hungary offer competitive entry-level positions (€58,000-€120,000 for Artificial intelligence/machine learning roles) with lower living costs.

Notably, job postings mentioning ‘prompt engineering’ have surged 180-209% year-over-year across major European markets, while overall AI job postings have increased by 109% in the same period.

“You’re not competing against people with 10 years of experience.”

Luisa Esposito at EIT Campus says, “The beauty of these AI roles is that you’re not competing against people with 10 years of experience, because large language models haven’t been around for 10 years. This creates a unique window of opportunity for career changers to get up to speed quickly through online courses, certifications, and hands-on practice, then enter the field on relatively equal footing with other newcomers. Someone with six months of focused training in prompt engineering can be just as competitive as someone who’s been in tech for years.”

“AI can even be a tool to help learn.”

“The only barrier between you and a job in AI is the choice to commit time to learning. The beauty of AI is that it can teach you how to use it. You can’t go into the board room to accompany and teach yourself to be a CEO in a few months, but you can do that with AI. And on top of that, AI can even be a tool to help learn.”

Unlike traditional tech roles that often require computer science degrees and years of coding experience, the research identifies three key factors making AI careers newly accessible:

  1. Shortened training periods: Most entry-level AI roles can be learned in 3-12 months through online platforms like Coursera, edX, and specialized bootcamps, compared to 3-4 years for a traditional degree.
  2. Skills-based hiring: Companies increasingly value portfolios, practical projects, and certifications over formal educational credentials. Self-taught professionals who can demonstrate AI competency through GitHub projects or freelance work are landing roles traditionally reserved for degree-holders.
  3. Transferable skills: Professionals from customer service, writing, sales, teaching, and project management backgrounds are successfully transitioning into AI roles by leveraging their existing expertise.

The World Economic Forum’s “Future of Jobs Report 2025” anticipates that AI will substantially alter 22% of existing jobs by 2030 while creating millions of new roles that require human insight, creativity, and ethical judgment, qualities that cannot be automated.

January traditionally sees a 30% spike in job applications as professionals seek fresh starts. This year, AI roles present an unusual opportunity: a high-growth, well-compensated field with an estimated 97 million specialist roles needed globally by 2025, yet still in its early stages where newcomers can quickly become competitive.

For professionals considering a New Year career change, AI presents a rare joining of high demand, competitive salaries, accessible training, and ground-floor timing in an industry still defining itself.
