You can now boast of 15GB free shared storage on Google’s three major platforms: Drive, Gmail and Google+. What this means is that users now have 15GB unifies storage across all three platforms. It also means that you are free to store what you want where you want. So in effect, you can have 15GB of files stored in GDrive, but nothing stored anywhere else; or store 10GB on Gmail and 5 on GDrive. It’s all up to you, you decide how to use your free space.
Before today, users were restricted to 10GB of free storage in Gmail, and 5GB for Google+ and Google Drive but today’s announcement removes that cap completely. You now have access to buy more data when you run out of the initial 15GB free space. Users can upgrade to 100GB of storage, for instance, for $4.99 per month.
In a blog post announcing the new changes, Clay Bavor, Director of Product Management said:
Life gets a bit easier when your Google products work well together—whether that’s inserting a Drive file into an email or sharing a photo from Drive on Google+. As this experience becomes more seamless, separate storage doesn’t make as much sense anymore. So instead of having 10 GB for Gmail and another 5 GB for Drive and Google+ Photos, you’ll now get 15 GB of unified storage for free to use as you like between Drive, Gmail, and Google+ Photos.
These changes to Google Drive storage will roll out over the next couple of weeks.
