Groupon And Expedia Launch Getaways, A Travel Deals Service

Groupon and Expedia have joined forces to create Groupon Getaways with Expedia, a new service that will broadcast travel deals.

The new service will hew closely to Groupon’s existing model, in which customers have a limited time to take advantage of a deal. A press release from the two companies promises that the discounts will be “typically around 50% off retail rates found at other online travel sites.” A customer buys a voucher and redeems it at a later date.

Groupon Getaways with Expedia will launch in June with hotels in the US, expanding to airlines and car rentals, even cruises. Before the end of the year the service will roll out to Latin America, Europe and then Asia. It’ll work a lot like Groupon — customers will have a limited time to buy a discount voucher, usually about half-off, for future travel.

How it works
Groupon Getaways with Expedia will send you a daily email offering deals on a variety of travel destinations when you sign up. When the perfect family vacation spot lands in your inbox you simply purchase the offer with your credit card and print the Groupon for you to redeem when you so choose.  Interested in planning that perfect Las Vegas vacation?  Watch your inbox for Groupons! You might score Expedia Las Vegas hotels and flights for half off.
