Facebook today unveiled its official Facebook Messenger for Windows application, a desktop app for sending and receiving messages via Facebook without opening Facebook in a browser.

Facebook Messenger for Windows desktop allows you to see and respond to chats right from your desktop. Whether you’re browsing other websites or using another app, you don’t have to click away to stay connected. You can also find out about new comments, photo tags and more as soon as they come in once the app is installed on your Windows. Stay up to date with an active stream of posts and activity from your friends. You can just click to leave a comment or see more.

Facebook is working on Messenger for Mac as well.

Facebook Messenger for Mobile is already available for iPhone, Android and Blackberry.
