The usage of mobile devices is growing at an amazing rate. What is even more interesting is that Apple’s mobile devices, notably the iPhone and the iPad recorded huge figures in the past year and are still very popular among smartphone users today. In a research publication released by Millennial Media, an independent mobile advertising and data company, Apple continued to be the leading device manufacturer of smartphones. Apple’s iOS impression grew by 60% year-over-year. Millenial Media researchers also found out that the iPad delivered 97% of all US tablet impressions and impressions grew by 456% in the same year.The app store recorded over 500,000 apps as well.
Apple has introduced over 200 new features to it’s mobile operating (iOS) system this year, and has released a beta version to iOS Developer Program members. iOS 6 will be available to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users this fall as a free software update. New iOS 6 features include: an all new Maps app with Apple-designed cartography, turn-by-turn navigation and a new Flyover view. This new feature will be in direct competition with Google maps. And Siri now available for the new iPad as well as iPhone 4S is optimized for use in 15 countries and helps you get more done with your voice.
As of April 2012 Apple had sold 35.2 million iPhones, well above expectations of 30.5 million. Apple’s iOS devices have been the fuel of its growth, accounting for a record 75 percent of revenue last quarter (BusinessInsider).
