How to Develop a Lasting Relationship with an Outsourcing Company

There is no difference between outsourcing and other business relationships. Long-term and successful relationships start with negotiations and the contract, but it takes more to get to the stage, where both sides can feel comfortable with their choice. Here are a few tips that can help you smooth the process.

Personnel management

First of all, start with establishing the chain of management by appointing one manager per project to each client and helping those managers develop into exceptional professionals. This helps to maintain regular contact, avoid confusions and creates a level of trust. Moreover, it increases quality and gives you the time to concentrate on the core of the business.

Defined criteria and goals

Right from the start of the agreement, set the criteria and determine your goal. Don’t keep secrets; it’s best to maintain a transparent facade with clearly outlined objectives. The key is keeping the approach flexible and balancing your needs with theirs.

Be straight about your expectations and priorities, define and divide mutual responsibilities. They are not just some vendors, you are choosing a structural member of the team, and treating them as an equal is the proper base of every relationship.

Communication

Making a deal with a company is a long-term investment. Show you are a serious business by dedicating more time and really working with them. Communicate openly from the beginning, discuss the needs of the project and set up regular check-ups. Organize the schedule early on for a proper exchange of information.

Regular updates help determine and eliminate problems that may arise. In addition, it is a great way for generating suggestions and ideas from both sides. Apart from communicating day-to-day status about the project, motivate them by sometimes communicating on a global level. Some misunderstandings are bound to happen, but if there are a lot of problems from the beginning it is best to take your business somewhere else.

Respect

Don’t treat others the way you don’t want to be treated. To build a healthy relationship, appreciate your contractor’s advice and expertise. Creative discussions and an open knowledge exchange assure success. Also, be respectful of their time and culture.

Different time zones should not be something to worry about, because it can work for the both of you. If the end of your day matches the beginning of their day, you can get the completed work in the morning. For a better understanding of each other’s culture, organize social events and get familiar with their company background.

Responsibility

Own your mistakes! Don’t pass the blame constantly on to others; it is alright to admit if you’ve overlooked some aspects of the business. Unnecessary arguments may arise when people don’t want to step down. Handle your responsibilities, determine the source of the problem and work on effective solutions. In fact, taking responsibility represents maturity, healthy leadership and cuts unwanted costs.

Creating a long-term relationship with an outsourcing company provides the opportunity for constant improvement of both your products and services. Productivity is the most important part of this relationship, so make sure the company you are dealing with is capable enough to overcome all the barriers mentioned above.
